If you"re going to go for a wider tire profile, you might as well invest in larger diameter rims.Otherwise, just stick to stock sizes.

For me...the 215 already gives my 16 inch tires a balloon look to it already. 225 will slightly decrease MPG because of an increase of rolling resistance. You might want to get your alignment checked to see if it"s the reason why your tires wore out too soon.
I had Michelin on my "10 and tread was nearly on wear bars at 30 mi. Just replaced them very recently (with the same). I think (or I know) my alignment was out as well as were not rotated either. I like Michelin, so that"s why I stayed w/them.
