LSB#: 130508RS04 Make: Hopkins & Allen Model: Top-Break 12 Gauge Serial Number: 85570 Year of Manufacture: Pre-1916 Gauge: 12 Gauge, 2 ¾” Shells Action Type: Top-Break Single Barrel with Automatic Ejector Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “HOPKINS & ALLEN / ARMS COMPANY / NORWICH. CONN. USA” The bottom tang reads “8 5570”. The top of the barrel reads “FULL CHOKE”. The top tang is hand etched “SPAHR”. The buttplate is etched “R.G. / SPAHR” Barrel Length: 32” Choke: Full Sights / Optics: This shotgun is mounted with a steel bead front sight. Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two piece smooth hardwood. There are various compression marks and scratches. There are areas where the finish has worn off. There are also a few chips near the receiver. The LOP measures 14” from the front of the trigger to the back of the plastic buttplate. The stocks rate in about Very Good overall condition. Type of Finish: Blue Finish Originality: All Original Bore Condition: The bore is gray. There is little erosion. Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 65% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows frosting over the surface of the shotgun. A brown patina has formed as well. There are some scrapes but no dents. The screw heads are mostly sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun rates in about Very Good condition. Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this shotgun. Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None Our Assessment: This is a nice little single barrel made by Hopkins and Allen. Hopkins & Allen Arms Company was a US firearm manufacturing company based in Norwich, Connecticut that was founded in 1868 by Charles W. Allen, Charles A. Converse, Horace Briggs, Samuel S. Hopkins and Charles W. Hopkins. The Hopkins brothers ran the day-to-day operations of the company which re-organized several times and finally went bankrupt in 1916. To reduce the likelihood of damage during shipping, we may disassemble long guns by removing stocks when it is possible & easy and will not damage the wood or screws. We will also break down takedowns. We have had problems with rough carrier handling breaking the stocks at the wrist, and since we have begun to disassemble, we have not had any breakage. All parts will be individually wrapped. If you would prefer to not have your item disassembled, please let us know as soon as you win the bid. We package all merchandise for shipment on the Monday following the sale. Your item will be shipped within 1 week of receipt of good funds, usually the next day. You will receive an automatic notification with a tracking number upon shipment, to let you know that we have received funds. (Please obtain a tracking number from your carrier for immediate delivery confirmation of payment). If you are in Southern California, you are welcome to pick your item up and complete the transfer at our shop in Simi Valley (M-F, 8-4 and Saturday By Appointment). This gun can only be shipped to an FFL or C&R, and it will be shipped from an FFL. It is your responsibility to ensure that the gun is legal to own and receive in your area. Please include a copy of your C&R or your dealer’s license with payment. We will need CFLC numbers for CA FFL’s to ship. We are FFL dealers and comply with all Federal, State and Local laws. We always combine on shipping to save you as much as we can.
