You are watching: What type of oil does a 5.7 chevy take

*

I"ve propelled this truck for 10 years. I"ve constantly put 5.5 quarts of oil in it.What is the actual proper amount? some shops periodically put 6 quarts in.What"s worst case scenario?

Maybe, possibly not. Depends on in its entirety capacity. If the crankshaft is whipping it yes. But I"m not thinking an extra quart would certainly do that through a 5-6 quart capacity.

Thanks for the quick reply. I tend to get overly anal and came to about things. Especially now that i"ve made a decision to simply save truckin" through this and also avoid a automobile payment. I"ll simply save doing 5 1/2 quarts choose normal.Thumbs up!-Markus
I"d still inspect the stick. If Jiffy Lube slaps a brand-new filter on while it"s still draining because they are in a hurry there"s your 1/2 quart anymeans. I pull the drainpipe plug and filter, go perform somepoint else for a while, then finish. I fill the brand-new filter before spinning it on as well. I typically put roughly 5 quarts in, fire it up, revolve it off and let it sit, then check and height off. I know that sounds prefer 8 additional procedures however whatever it helps me sleep at night lol.

Big photo I wouldn"t sweat it. A lot of males hit the passist off milerock and decide they should resolve eextremely squeak and rattle, redevelop the truck from the ground up...I doubt you would be wbelow you are via it if you didn"t already take great care of it. My mindset has been something prefer run it/ride it/race it/resolve it when you break it via everything I"ve owned from mowers to motorcycles.

5-1/2 quarts isn"t going to reason any type of issues through that 5.7 - You finish up roughly 5-1/2 quarts anymeans if you prefill the oil filter at the time of oil change. No worries!
The hand-operated on mine sassist 5 qts. I"d fill the filter and then dump the rest in through the oil fill on peak of the valve cover. Never before had actually any kind of problems in 150k miles. A little additional won"t hurt anypoint. Go as well a lot and also you"ll more than likely fill up the PCV and need to clean that out. But 0.5 qt most likely doesn"t matter.
